Nice review. I saw the movie too. Here are a few observations:
1. Like you said, its a nice movie – with the "what next" keeping audience's interest alive till the very end.
2. Lots of people look upto movies – so its better if they stop showing heroes as thrice 12th failed, MBA bust doesnt like to work etc.
3. If he wants the best in everything, then why didnt he do three jobs and choose the best – THAT can be an inspiring message to youth.
4. Having given up on Vishal, this movie kinda brought back my confidence in him. If he picks movies of this sort and uses opportunities well, oru nalla round varuvaar.

5. Tired of seeing Mouli in passive roles like this – naan kekaren, as a dad can't he say "nee mathadhu ellaam choose pannadhu saripaa, this is a girl's life – what if I tried out three girls and your mom was the one that I settled with. And what if you are one of the many that a girl tries and rejects you 'coz you cant land up in a job" – Mouli needs to grow out of that passive, humor dad. It was enjoyable in thiru thiru thuru thuru – but kind of irritated me here.
6. Like you said the heroines did a good job, but Prakash Raj's sister seemed to lack conviction and did what Tanushree Dutta said. If she had the conviction and hated males, I expect her to have more conviction and not just be a Tanu's puppet.
7. Santhanam – very nice for the little scope that he had.

8. Yuvan's music – I agree. If this trend continues, 20 years down the line we will still be hearing romantic strings of K V M, M S V and Raja.
9. I was sad at the end when all realizations of Vishal went to the trash – does it mean that he is still going to be a play boy? I KNOW its for humor, so its not to be taken as a message movie.
10. Overall, nice and refreshing movie compared to the contemporary plethora of mokkais.

You must watch it when it comes out on DVD though. It was kinda dissapointing after all the hype and piracy exposure but its a frecnh remake i believe so it is worth seeing it cuz its not often other films out of india get re-made in tamil

Shankar's older films weren't that great either in my opinion. Especially Boys, it was so hyped up the but the actual thing was a holy crap on a wooden stick. Terrible film.
I thought Sivaji was a very good film. My dad enjoyed as well as my grandfather. My mum isn't much of a movie watcher and is more interested in films by Saran (not Asal director, the guy who acted in Autograph and Pokkisham) or similar. I loved the comedy, the songs, the good editing and cinematography, screenplay. It was almost like a flawless movie but I do agree, I dont think that the 60 crores (was that the budget) was needed to make that movie since KV Anand made a fantastic movie (Ayan) for under 15 crores and that got more than Sivaji in box office (I think). So yeah, the movies are good but he spends too much for unnecessary things such as the glass dome in the song "Sahana" just for about 30 seconds.
However, when it comes to more innovative films such as Endhiran where its about a robot if I'm correct and is also likely of seeing a 3D version, the high budget is needed. No matter what the budget though, I personally enjoyed his last film Sivaji. His other movies are watchable. Hope to see Endhiran soon.

i really like ur view man&it's not bad 2 spend money 4 movies which really demand it,but shivaji is definitely not that type of a movie mainly because the concept was age old concept we see in his movies but on the whole it was a rajnikanth show(shankar too made a mark in industry that he is a high budget director) so it demanded such a granduer.and boys well it was just an very average movie even when compared to his earlier works but had an advice like siva said but it definitely failed to its hype & if u take recent trends it's an technique 4 distributors to hype about a worthless movie(as everyone knows our good for nothing SUN PICTURES and very notably KANDASAMI) even shivaji had the same hype but it was certainly below its mark
so for a movie have atleast an opening that hype is needed.the main reason y i hate that director shankar is (ADUTHAVAN KAASU NA ORU DANCE MOVEMENT KU KOODA VELI NAADU ODUVAAN AVAN KAASU NA THIRUTTU PAYA ORU OOTA BUS KULLAYE FILMA MUDICHIDUVAAN ) the reason i stress this factor is today an average ticket rate in a city theatre is atleast 70 rs wen we spend such amounts 2 watch a movie and he wont even spent half of wat he asks for a song in others productions.and mainly for this reason he started the trend of reality movies which dont need much production costs(EX:VEIYIL,KALLORI,KADHAL) so he really is a money minded ZOMBIE(of course every one is but he belongs 2 the extreme category).
and i want to correct u in 2 things actually it's SERAN and not SARAN so u need not specify the movies and secondly whether we like it or not SHIVAJI ranks 1 in collections followed by DASAVATHARAM and only AYAN(if u have doubts browse abt it thats how i found it).

Below are my 2c. Shankar has been in movie industry for an incredibly long time. He has been Assistant Director to
S A Chandrashekar, Bhagyaraj and Pavithran. Gentleman movie vandha appo it was such a welcome break – almost the birth of a new genre – the desi Robin Hood types. I can compare that to the hype and aura that prevailed when Roja came out.
Indha madhiriyum movies panna mudiyumaangara madhiri oru admiration, oru satisfaction. Anniyan, Indian and Sivaji to a certain extent satisfied the same thirst of a movie buff. However the downsides of the like of Kadhalan, Jeans and especially Boys – hhhmmm… andha Shankar-aa apdinu puruvangaL nimirndhana.

Kadhalan – grandeur love story which helped Prabhu Deva who was reaching his acme.
Jeans – Prashanth ellaam endha director iyakkinaalum urupadaadha oru case – he has been directed by Mani Ratnam, Shankar, but still his performances have been extemely mediocre indicating that acting is not his cup of tea.
Aishwarya Rai mattum irundhaa padam hit aayidaadhungaradhuku oru example. Especially Raju Sundaram + Senthil comedy was maha vazhusal. The Shankar who gave phenomenal Kaunda Mani kinda comedy in Gentleman and Indian failed miserably in Jeans. It was a fair show with Vadivelu and a good one with Vivek – he has a good potpourri of comedians.

I have my reservations about so much expenditure for songs, etc. "Veyyilodu vilayaadi" and "Urugudhey" from Veyyil
gave such an impact but would not have together costed as much as "Sahana". Well its the director's call and the
producer's free will. Namba kudukara 100 Rs ku we probably should not evaluate more than whether the song was good or bad – and IMHO, Sahana song was bad.
Boys: it was a nice concept, youth going astray, learning from mistakes, etc. But how many people noticed that and
appreciated Shankar for that? Human nature is to remember "indha molagaaingalaa" more than the scene where all parents discuss and Vivek talks some sense. Nobody is at fault. The concept was good, but it probably took more bad messages than good.

Ulaga tharam, hollywood seem to Shankar's USP – how many of the hollywood movies have songs? Ella difference-um try panna Shankar, why didnt he think a movie without songs. Story – punch – finish… Why not? Super hero right sir… why not a hero who doesnt have even normal skills but becomes a hero – like a Taare Zameen Par or even My Name is Khan? I believe Shankar can, but is just not venturing into such things.
Anniyan was good – but sadly the same story. I have heard so many of my friends say that Shankar knows just one story and paints it on different canvases every time. And when he thinks out of this box, he comes up with Kadhalan, Boys, Jeans, etc.

Sivaji pathi romba pesa mudiyaadhu. Because Shankar himself admitted that its more a Rajini movie than a Shankar movie. Larger than life hero, which Rajini supposedly is already – easy catch for Shankar, but I dont think we can see 20 movies of the same kind. Mottai rajini of course was nice, but there is so much more innovation that can be done than just tonturing one's head and relying on his current image and style. I think Rajini and Shankar are so hooked onto Kriya Yoga and one is utilizing the others strengths to everyone's fullest gains.

Thiruvilayadal movie-la APN will say "nalla paattuku pandiyan parisu alithaal, adharku sandhosha padubavan naan… adhey samayam pizhayaana paattuku pandiyan parisu alithaal adharku varutha padum mudhal manidhanum naan dhaan…" Nagesh mocks saying "inga ellaamey neer dhaanaa…?" its so situational for our discussion topic. Inga ellaamey rasigargal (not even critics) dhaan. We are all always looking up to Kalai Gurus like Shankar, but when the fumble, we are disappointed and sad "ennappa avaruku udambu sari illaya" types. So, if you set your bars high, try to atleast jump over them every time. And jumping over them doesnt simply mean making a movie a few crores costlier.

It's very difficult to read but I thought Sivaji was a good movie.
First of all it had some sort of charm. The comedy, wasn't that great?
The songs, wasn't it good? (But I do agree, I didn't like Sahana and Oru Kooda Sunlight).
Boys is just a boring movie in my opinion cause its like a realistic film in some extent.
I didn't appreciate movies like Vallavan and Varanam Aayiram until I actually experienced similar situations in my actual life. Likewise, I didn't face a time in life similar to the plot in Boys so it passess by as a crap film. It had high hype and in my opinion all that hype was not needed. Like I said, some films cannot be enjoyed unless you actually know what it feels like.
I thought Kadhalan was good and so was Jeans. All old movies are my favourites (apart from the black and white films lol) since they have some sort of ingredient Tamil cinema now is missing. In the end like you say, it's up to the director and the produce as to how much they wanna spend. It's a Rajni project after all so its not gonna be great looking if such a well-respected and rich director such as Shankar doesn't capture footage at high levels.
Endhiran seems promising since I liked Terminator 2 a lot when it came out. It was something different and innovative and I think Endhiran would be of a similar quality.

I liked the concept, But I do not think that the love scene is necessary. If you calculate, more time in the movie is spent going behind her and it was totally boring with Rajini doing it. His time is over, if he acted like husband and wife since the beginning of the movie, it could have been much better.
He should have focused more on the bottom line of the story….
I understand but if not for the love story, I dont think the comedy would've been good but I do understand that Rajini is getting old and should go for different types of films but he is shown young in the film.
Not a bad thing but sometimes I feel you review films for logic. Like I said not trying to be rude but its like you go beyond the film. I noticed this with Vettaikaran too, you were ranting about Vijay and how he doesn't pick good stories, the thing is that it was a review about the film, and yes about Vijay too but you shouldnt have gone into the facts that isnt relevant to the actual film. So Suppan please avoid that in future reviews.
Yes I respect your opinion but I dont think I can picture the comedy. In fact I was looking more forward to Vivek's hilarious dialogue more than the political sort of scenes. Yes, the film is definitely not Rajini's best but it was a good entertainer and had all the commercial aspects to make it be worth the watch.

Suppan: your % time split up in Sivaji was interesting. My fear is Vijay et al, who are simply aping Rajini should not ape his acting as hero when they are 60-ish.

First of all, yes, the songs were all really good.
Next, the film was at the time somewhat good. Almost a clean entertainer you can say but according to today's expectations it is a pretty sh*t movie. So as I said, Boys really wasn't worth all the hype.
There was loads of hype about this film and the final thing wasn't that great. There were stupid scenes and the prostitute/naked run scenes were too much and just bored me to death.
I hate shankar because, 1. His movies are remakes of various hollywood movies and even the songs and he doesn’t even accept the truth and boast that they are his own script. 2. His movies don’t have any logic like arjun throwing cars in mudhalvan, vikram chasing sada in daylight and no one even police constable not bothered in anniyan , vikram beating up 100 men in anniyan(people with multiple personality are not superman) and the list goes on. 3. Making a movie for years and wasting producers money, hollywood movies are made at a budget of Rs.1000 crores within a year and released at exactly the said date. 4.Using technology for unnecessary scenes and songs and wasting money mostly on songs which does not attract world audience.
I like this movie , may be watching 2 many movies is making you expect more(much more) from a movie.

It is because in AO they have copied from gladiator,snake island,mummy etc etc and in vettaikaaran it is because the screenplay was somewhat better and when you for instance take dhaam dhoom,i expected the movie to have like a very racy screenplay like the bourne movie series but it wasn't and take sarvam people who watch it occasionally may like it but after you see all english hollywood thrillers you will not like this movie sameway goa was not upto the expectation…What do you think of it Mr.Suppan

But Money plays a big role in reviewing movies on first day. I am not getting more than Rs.200 per month from the ads that I have put on this web. But I will have to spend about $2000 a month to view all the movies on day 1.

just now coming after seeing VTV…. According to me superb movie ever made by Gautham menon…. I am giving 8/10 for this movie… I can bet that no one else except Gautham menon can make such a sensitive movie… This is not a movie but a poetry which even after years can be rehashed and enjoyed… Each scene is really awesome and entertaining… There are some loopholes in the script… Mainly editing could have been little better… Movies second half could have been more crispy…One time we feel movie is over and every1 was about to get up though there was 2 more scenes left which was considered to be the climax of the movie.. Same problem was there for Pachchai kili MuthuCharum….But its ok…sparing it we can movie is real surprise to watch… Simbhu for the first time proved he is a best actor than dhanush or even vijay….Trisha superb… Ganesh who i think is the producer of this movie did a small role in this movie… awesome performance by him… There is only 1 fight in the movie…chanceless… Music and camera work classic… Actually directors like shankar should learn from gautham menon how to make a movie with comparatively low budget but very high in quality… Gautham menon again proved he is great director till now…3 cheers to him…. But tell you movie is slow and u need maturity to like this movie… anyway i liked it very much,,,

for me, BOYS is one of the best movies from shankar after gentleman, indian and mudhalvan..there is no such racy screenplay happened in any recent movies like "boys" did..good script, lovable music and bgm, commendable performances from new faces and vivek. wat else one want? its the high expectation from shankar makes his movies hit or flop.

I watched the movie two days ago.
I had something bigger in mind but we're talking about Goutham Menon, he drags the story forever. In my opinion its a bad thing. I mean the opening was great and the whole concept is interesting but the fact that he shows everything in great detail causes the film to lag behind. It's really slow and after the interval its so slow that if you got it on DVD, chances are you'd skip past scenes. The dialogue is nice and funny. Simbu has done is role extremely well and his personal appearance is also now good – Trisha done good, nothing special compared to her older movies – Editing by Anthony is decent but I think he should've suggested to cut the longer speeches as well as add more visual effects. The song are well choreographed and captured well. Cinematography is good – locations are well chosen.
If the film was shorter it would be better cause its just one concept and they just drag it on and on so by about half way through you can expect what to happen. The film is good otherwise. I can't really score this film cause the technical side is good, the cast is good but its just the length and how the story drags on forever. If I had to rate it, it would definitely be over 6 but no more than an 8 or 9.
Decent movie. But, very week screen play. A girl who has guts to stop a marriage on the altair before interval, will not back off from fighting the family in 2nd half. Its conflicting personality portrayal. Every time when simbu asks why did I fall in love with jesse, I was wondering why am I paying 12$ to watch this movie. Good movie for songs/cinematography/costumes. Simbu has done justice to his character. Gautam Menon cannot bring out the Minnale magic in this movie.

1. First let me tell you about someones comments about late reviews. Ignore that and stick to your ways of doing I know its terribly expensive to pay in Black or other means, Most Tamil movies are not worth more the ticket price. I dont want to kill the goose which lays the golden egg. Late review is better than no review)
2. I like you review very much keep up the good work, I have told many people with same frustration about tamil movies (those who want to spend their time on good movies rather get cheated by all the junk)
3. I was going through your old movies review (I have missed lot of good movies so now I am filtering from your reviews and watching them) But many of the old reviews (youtube) are not there. Either they say removed for copyright reasons or it says removed by users. What is going on? I have seen you mention this is someone against your reviews and they remove it? This is preplexing.

Thats very cheap of Ayngaran. I think your reviews are to the point thats why me and others are sticking to you. This tells me Ayngaran is afraid of honest reviews. Ayngaran knows that many Tamil movies are not upto the mark. Only handful are watchable. So letting honest review out will only affect their sales. If it was the other way (say 80% of the movies are good) then they would have welcomed your reviews. That would help their business. But Ayngaran is using cheap tactics and I dont know how they can control many other main stream media reviews and other things around the web. (I understand if the movie or part of the movie itself is uploaded to youtube – I hate that myself I feel bad for the producers and DVD distributers like Ayngaran. That definetly should be taken down. Still youTube is the venue for largest copyright crimes on the web).

Plus this also tells me more about YouTube. For all their talk and preachings ("protectors of free speech" "do no evil" Google) they are doing a disservice by killing a core form of free speech here – a harmless Movie review, no politics, no religion, no personal attacks, pure opinion.

Ok back to my selfishness: I am still seeing old links to YouTube in your site consultmirror.com. For example "Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu (Kulu) – Suppan’s Review" under "All Suppans Review" is still pointing to YouTube. Is there another page in your website where "your" locations of the reviews are uploaded)
I initially did not know I will be blocked, so for some of the reviews, I did not have a copy uploaded in my website. I only had youtube embedded videos. which is why those are still pointing youtube…

This movie was really amazing , when i went to watch it i was really happy because I knew it was going to be good because of Gauthaum he has never failed at any movie he had made he always has good movies like Minnale, Vettaiyaadu Villaiyaadu, Kaaka Kaaka and many other brilliant movies.. This movie was a bit different and that's another reason why I liked it , it was like a freedom from all the nonsense violence movie that came especially Asal , Asal was the most terrible movie ive seen just all style, this movie had everything good acting , good songs, good choreography and good scenery, Gauthaum is the best when it comes to directing 9/10 < only reason why I give it a 9 is because the movie was a bit too long but I was not bored just my legs were hurting sitting for that long

The highest I'd go is a 7. I thought Minnale was better.
There was a real comedian and good songs – All these aspects are present in VTV but its really long and content like comedy can be improved so it cuts down the serious scenes and balances it out.
I understand…. I did not get a chance to review Minnale. I would give minnale 10 as well as Kakka kakka… I did feel it was little long, but again all those scenes were necessary … It was like music album too, so if he had cut 2 songs we would have felt good…

Sure, its dead old but still watchable. The annoying thing is that every single line the villain and hero exchange with each other is a crappy punch dialogue. If you consider the technical side of it, it deserves better than a 3 but once again, your view.

i think who wrote this review have written just to down this movie VTV. We can see more of aversion than truthfulness in this review… And also don't have a basic manners on how to write in a reputed site like this… Crediting a movie good or bad is up to writers wish and self interest but there should be some amount of decorum to be followed when we write in a website like this… Already i have reviewed this movie on my part and if i do project it again saying VTV is a worth watching movie, everyone may think i am angry with his review… to be frank i don't have any mind on his review but the way it had been displayed is really frustrating me… Hope next time the person who wrote this wont be this much harsh

Suppan – I dont know why but with every Venkat Prabhu film, there is some sort of hidden charm.
Even if its not great, it can be appreciated by many viewers, especially younger audiences (people in their teens).
This is cause these sort of films are never made. I really dont remember watching films took in areas like Goa. It also had this sort of Hollywood style to it with the gay content and dialogue. It's a good film that everyone should watch when they have the free time. Otherwise I totally understand your view of the movie.

It's a good movie to watch. Even though Nandini/Eswari character imitates Catherine Zeta Jones' activity shown in the movie Entrapment and most of the concepts are copied from some hollywood movies, "Naanayam" has good creativities.

The acting was really good.
The cinematography was great.
Screenplay was awesome.
Dialogue was great.
Art direction was superb.
Locations were nice.
However, the negative thing is that there really isn't a story to support the style. Come on, a guy sitting and threatening people. Fair enough but is it really worth watching on the big screen?
People said it was a great film and after the HUUGGGGEEE dissapointed Dasavathaaram was, I expected better.
UPO is definitely way better than Dasavathaaram but still wanted something better. But yeah, at times I also felt sorry for Kamal, the way he acted.
Adapavigala, thats too much. From what I heard in general website biz scenarios rival companies try to hack your site to bring it down to destroy the competetion. In your case its not that and it could be others in the Industry who think your reviews are affecting their movies. From what you mentioned before about Ayngaran like guys taking your reviews from youTube I wont be surprized if this is one of those. Nothing else I could think off.

Topic i guess is why i hate director Shankar…. Topic is not whether i can watch shankar movies or not… Secondly viewing a movie is different from reviewing a movie… In mudhalvan, Arjun becomes CM for 1 day and cleans the city which is not practical in reality. But i didn't comment on that. But there is a limit for fooling our people. So when you are just watching a movie, we can watch movie for entertainment but when we review a movie we have to go to its scrap…I am not against fantasy movies… I enjoyed movies like Krish, Arundhathi etc where logic takes a back seat.. I agree sci-fi movies are not often adopted in our indian movies… Last one i remember was Koi Mil Gaya which was somewhat ok… Lets see if Endhiran satisfies people's expectation if story is something like Robot getting tensed with today's society and planning to clear the thrashes in the society, i do swear everyone in the cinema hall will start howling like hell… hehehehe
