Naan kadavul is a tremendous movie by Bala. This movie is a lesson to all other commercial movies done by big actors.
Bala has shown two worlds in this movie that everyone does not know. Arya is perfect for this role. I could not imagine
any other actor for this role other than surya and vikram. His powerful eye and perfect body is amazingly suited for
this character. Pooja done a excellent acting. It is a very hard subject but Bala takes us into the bottom of the story
very lightly with very good comedy track. Background music and two songs are fantastic. I love Illayaraja but I think he
could done much better music. Bala, Arya and Pooja Rocks!!! Very good movie. Everybody should watch once to support the
technicians, Directors and all actors. Another masterpiece from Bala.

Camera ,settings are good.(in general its getting better in India) . Working with disabled less fortunate people and showing their thoughts and daily routines almost in raw reality is good(drinking scene, joking on Gods make ups, talkative lad). Though its hard to buy the story, sure Bala’s presentation is wonderful. Limbless guru is unique. (His voice didn’t go well with the built up given!). Oh.. my Raja Raja Ilayaraja.. wonderful music.(but u know if listen to audio only, hm some thing is repeating Raja!, I guess we need more from you). I love nayan’s dance ‘ammadi athadi’ (Hats off Simbu no one ever made such a glamorous song ever before. Keep it up.) and MGR , Sivaji comments yeehooo(though this scene is forced insertion)!. (who is that self beating band master.. good job). Arya tried , make up helps a lot. (Have you seen Bharathiar without mustache!).
-: 1) 3yrs? Sorry, not worth. 2) Why do I remember ‘Ram’ the movie same kind of characterization done by Jeeva (I guess) and director Ameer. (Is it true Ameer and Bala were colleagues one time? did they every discuss the same story idea? wondering!! 3. This Dons of beggars slavery is very old stuff though and repeated in all languages many times. This film is not upto the standards of ‘Pithamahan’ to my opinion . 4. Wow, Police men should not be revenged or what? 5. Beginning and some family scenes feels like watching a TV serial (did u think the same?). Good Movie.

how is that possible?
I have never been a fan of Mr.Bala,
He always makes movies about a psycho guy,mostly an all powerful guy who always have an angry look for no reason (exception surya in pithamagan).Sadly in tamil movies you always have to these characters who are mentally deranged (Kadhal Konden,Sethu,Ram,Anniyan ……)or you have to wear make up and change your “GETUP” to be considered and noted as an actor.Why can’t we have good movies with normal people with everyday problems.
As we see the movies, we see individuals shine. Like bala is good at direction, Aarya & Pooja did a fantastic job. Raja is as always great..But when we combine altogether, it didn’t mix well as a movie. There’s no string attached to the sequences of the movie. It gives an impression as of documentary and no take away from Bala. I expected a lot more clear and better presentation.
The direction is good so it is 7 marks.
But this is Directed by Bala…. It should be 10/10… Thats what I meant

Naan Kadavul is a best ever movie made in tamil. bala took 3 years to make this movie its really a less time to give a worthy movie like this . think of the charecters in the movie is it possible to get that natural acting from them and to give a realistic view to the movie in a year… really this work ought to be appriciated…. hats off bala..great work

I just wanted to give a few tips and pointers to Suppan. Couldnt get his email address. Firstly to review something good communication skills to put our point across is needed. Also intelligence is needed to understand the point of making the review, which i hope is to be constructive in our appreciation of films and film making. And if you start thinking i dont like you you are wrong. I dont know if you have it in you to understand all this. In simple words firstly a review is our version of the movie, what i liked what i didnt like. So learn to sound like that. You have to listen to more reviewers and critics they always say ” I thought the movie was like this or that” so Please learn that. And your review never had anything to say on what could be done to make it better. Without this there is no point in the review. If your point was to just while away your time in the net by making a review or if it was to just create a buzz then fine. But if u are serious about making quality reviews i think you really have to work on your presentation and constructive appreciation. My personal opinion on this movie is that..I would give it a 5/5. Maybe because I’m a fan of Bala. Most messages in this movie are pretty straight forward. Aham Bramahsmi…if I’m not mistaken a philoshy under the teachings of Advaita has been sewn nicely into the storyline. I am very happy with Arya’s acting. I really can see that he has put a lot of work and dedication. As for Pooja…not bad but could have been done better especially on expressions. She could have studied Pasupathi’s characther in Raman Thediya Seethai, where he potrays a blind characther as well….but if Bala wanted the expressions to be in this way…then definitely it’s not Pooja to be blamed.
And if I were to leave my focus on so called ‘leading roles’ , I’m happy with the Murugan character…even though almost no one talks about this characther, for me it is one of the important character that I can’t forget in this movie..it is very realistic…the emotional sufferings that the character ‘Murugan’ potrays really makes you feels it. The 2 scene that I would like the most were when he asks for forgiveness from the sami as well as when he was drunk, his expressions, the burst of emotions are very realistic.
The villain characther is pretty raw…maybe that’s the reason I’m a fan of Bala….the raw original expressions, characthers that he emphasizes in his movies.
The quality of the production as a whole, camera angles, editing, lightings, art and etc are excellent.
As a fan of Dr.Ilayaraaja, I’m happy with his compositions with Om Siva Om being my favourite.
The comedy scenes in this movie without the ‘designated’ comedians, which has been the trademark of Bala, are pretty raw and lively.

The movie is very disturbing. It has been 3 days since I watched the movie. I still can’t get some scenes out of my head. On the whole, this movie is something. I am not even sure how to put it in words. It was a very different movie. It makes you go insane for sometime – nothing makes sense when you come out of the theater. This is how I felt. I could not eat or sleep well that night. If you are a very emotional person – please avoid this movie.

there is producer, director for the movie, they are there to worry about that, your job is to tell the movie is good or bad.

I have seen your review. It is really amature. When you review you got to be neutral, keep away your likes and dislikes and expectations. List out the Positive sides of the movie and the character roles in the movie and their performance and does not matter how long they come and go, what kind of the impact they make on you and the audience that is very IMPORTANT. They you can come up with your suggestions and disappointments in the movie. You review looks like you want to deliberately accuse and dont wanted to say the good side of the movie, which say you are not a person to judge.
Above all the movie is a other movie. This movie got emotions and feelings and disturbances. I dont think someone can easily value this movie you got to think you in that place and it is called EMPATHY.
Simply dont say how long it took it all doesnot matter. If you have seen Academy Awards (Oscar) movies will have an impact on you. MOvies like I am Sam, Million Dollar Baby, Johan Q and many of Client East wood films.

Listening to your review i seem to agree the part where Bala has apparently done hard work but failed to potray Arya as hero. Am sure Arya “the drop dead gorgeous” deserves more time in the 3 hours movie. Watching the movie I felt the main character was villian and that beggar maid. You were spot on and i couldnt diagree with you.

The very first Scene in the movie(Shot of KASI with hindi bhajan song) clearly depicts the intention of the director, not to expect usual tamil movie. In the time where Using english or other languages for title here is a director who slaps on your face by starting movie with full fledged hindi bhajan song. If you have not got that hint well there is no way anyone can understand what the movie is about. Secondly when did you see a bala movie where your expectations were based on a hero or heroine? I am baffled that you mentioned you expected arya to be hero and pooja to be heroine. In all his movies his story is the hero. Unless critics can think out of box(unfortunately thats not happening) how can we expect that form b,c level audiences? By the way B class and C class Audiences did appreciate the beggars scenes which very few critics have time to talk about in their critique. Too bad we fail to see what director wants to say(may be its the only fault of director to have missed out on that.) Unless that happens all masala heroes who are happy making remake movies will rule the roost and Tamil cinema will go into sewage.
Whenever you see a bold movies like this, i dare say bold because if you have listened to the dialogues, its anti god, anti politics but only spiritual(spirituality doesnt need god,relegion or politicians) Director has wanted to transcend his audience to a different plane. You may say tamil audience is not ready for it yet. Well they will never be unless someone takes them to that level. People in Indian subcontinent would never have got freedom if not for few handful of men who wanted to live and die free. Ofcourse people hardly have any respect for them like wise i dont expect tamil audience to appreciate this movie.
They can happily see and appreciate Remakes of other movies with no substance and no orginality.

Also i saw the link you had posted where an aghori eating some dead body. frankly i wonder if there is any dislike on that aspect of their way of living(although i beleive that is not a true aghori as genuine followers dont let anybody near them let alone taking video pictures). My point being there is lot we should learn about Hinduism(sanathana dharmam). There could be worse and is nauseating unless and untill we dont understand why they do it. There are so many silly things we do in so called civilised world which is much more nauseating.
Why do i lecture so much about this? the title for that link was “Truth behind Bala’s Nan Kadavul”. I found that negative(may be its not) association if not distasteful. I can also show a handicapped beggars footage and say truth behind bala’s naan kadavul or shot of parent who did something to their kid because of what an astrologer told or how a nun tries to convert a helpless poor people etc…
As someone pointed out when you Critique keep it strictly with in a parameter and try not to show your personal beleifs that has no bearing to the movie as you are not an alter ego of bala to support that title.

Nan kadavul is perhaps the best made and definitely the most depressing tamil film ever. The uniqueness of story trumps over all other aspects. the other aspects are also decent. Definitely a classic
i cant believe u said naan avan illai part 2 was a enjoyable movie and naan kadavul was a waste of time! u should just review third grade movies and stop yourself from being embarrased!

I appreciated his movie because it is an ART movie but projected and advertised as Commercial movie. Same applies to AO.
But this can be no where near to ART movie… If some one says it is a best movie, they really do not have a sense for movies OR they are occasional movie watcher who have no idea about cinema industry.
as sais limit urself to commercial movies… and bala has never made a commercial movy… and all movy goers know tht balas movie deals with the truth that the world doesnt wanna see…
